What is Root Canal Therapy?
Root canal therapy is necessary when the nerve of a tooth has been impacted by decay or infection. In order to save the tooth, tissue inside the tooth (pulp), nerves, bacteria, and any decay are removed, and the space is filled to restore full tooth function. By performing root canal therapy, you save a tooth that would otherwise have to be removed.
Signs a root canal may be required:
- An abscess (or pimple) on the gums.
- Lingering sensitivity to hot and cold.
- Severe tooth pain.
- Swelling and/or tenderness.
- Sometimes no symptoms are present.
